The Y-wing is a mainline fighter-bomber of the Rebel Alliance, the most common fighter in their arsenal. It is an older starfighter design.
The Y-wing's primary weaponry are forward-firing laser cannons; its secondary weaponry is a paired set of ion cannons.
It carries a single pilot and an astromech droid. Some versions have the astromech droid replaced by a tailgunner who operates the cannons.
The Y-wing carries proton torpedo launchers, useful for bombing missions against land and space targets.
For faster-than-light travel, it is equipped with a hyperdrive.
It has a heavily reinforced hull, and an energy shield. These defenses help make up for its lower speed and maneuverability than more modern fighters.
A Y-wing squadron helped save Arcadia from destruction at the hands of an Imperial fleet.
